15-Year Anniversary Tour
North Carolina native and award-winning playwright and filmmaker Garrett Davis, originally from Warrenton, North Carolina, returns to Henderson for a special homecoming presentation of the 15-Year Anniversary Tour of Mama’s Girls at McGregor Hall.
For 15 years, Mama’s Girls has entertained audiences with its signature blend of laughter, family, faith, friendship, and real-life situations. Now recognized as one of the longest-touring Off-Broadway stage productions in America, the production has surpassed 200 performances and enters its anniversary year with its fourth storyline, continuing Davis’ tradition of keeping the show fresh while remaining true to the characters and relationships audiences have embraced.
For Davis, bringing the anniversary tour back to Henderson carries special meaning. A native of nearby Warrenton, Davis has built a career creating theatrical and film productions that not only entertain but also spark conversations about issues affecting families and communities. His productions have toured nationally, and his unique approach to combining entertainment, education, and community engagement has earned him recognition throughout the country.
The Henderson performance will also have a strong hometown connection, featuring Warrenton’s own Dartez Wright as part of the anniversary cast. Joining Wright is acclaimed gospel vocalist LeJuene Thompson, known nationally for her work with Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers, along with Tiffany Agee, whose musical roots include the legendary gospel group The Truthettes.
“This anniversary is about more than celebrating how long the show has been on the road,” said Davis. “It’s about celebrating the audiences, the actors, the communities and all of the people who have allowed Mama’s Girls to continue growing for 15 years. To bring this anniversary tour 1 back to Henderson, so close to where my own journey began in Warrenton, makes this performance especially meaningful.”
Over its remarkable run, Mama’s Girls has continued to evolve. Its fourth storyline introduces audiences to another chapter in the lives of the women at the heart of the production while maintaining the humor, emotion and unexpected moments that have become trademarks of the show.
